Miamisburg Library Glare Reduction Project
The Miamisburg Library in Miamisburg, Ohio, faced a common challenge: intense morning glare impacting its interior spaces. To address this, TruView Films installed 828 square feet of Avery Dennison Grey 10 X exterior dual reflective window film across 58 windows. This large-scale project focused on mitigating harsh light without compromising natural illumination.
Understanding the Glare Problem
High windows, especially those facing east, can allow direct sunlight to create significant glare during morning hours. This glare can make it difficult for patrons and staff to read, work on computers, or simply be comfortable in the space.
Exterior Dual Reflective Window Film Explained
The selected film, Avery Dennison Grey 10 X, is an exterior dual reflective type. This means it has a reflective surface on the outside of the glass and a less reflective surface on the inside.
How it Works
The exterior reflective layer bounces a significant portion of solar energy, including visible light and infrared heat, away from the building before it enters. This directly reduces the intensity of light and heat hitting the glass. The interior surface is designed to be more reflective when viewed from inside during the day, further controlling glare. This "dual" nature allows the film to manage incoming light effectively, providing glare reduction and heat control.
The Installation Process
TruView Films applied the film to the exterior of the high windows. Exterior application is often ideal for dual reflective films as it maximizes their ability to reject solar energy before it contacts the glass. The 58 windows were meticulously cleaned and prepared before the film was precisely cut and applied.
Project Outcomes
The installation at Miamisburg Library resulted in a substantial reduction in morning glare. Patrons and staff can now enjoy a more comfortable environment, free from the harsh brightness that previously affected the library's high windows.
