Cincinnati Police Training Academy Facelift
Project Overview
This project involved the complete removal of aged, deteriorated window film and the professional reinstallation of new, high-performance film at the Cincinnati Police Training Academy. The original film, in place for approximately 30 years, had succumbed to sun damage, leading to bubbling, discoloration, and a generally degraded appearance. This compromised both the building's aesthetics and its energy efficiency. The scope included 38 windows, covering 514 square feet, with the application of Madico Optivision Reflective 05.
Addressing Window Film Degradation
Over extended periods exposed to the elements, particularly the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation, window films can break down. The adhesives can dry out, and the dyes within the film can fade or change color, often resulting in a purple or hazy appearance. This was precisely the condition at the Cincinnati Police Training Academy, where the 30-year-old film had severely degraded. Initially mistaken for window defects, the issue was traced to the failing film, necessitating a full replacement to restore the windows' intended performance and appearance.
Restoring Clarity and Performance
The replacement with Madico Optivision Reflective 05 addressed the immediate aesthetic issues and provided significant performance upgrades. This specific film is designed to significantly reduce solar heat gain, thereby lowering interior temperatures and decreasing reliance on air conditioning. It also enhances visual comfort by reducing glare. Critically for a training facility, the new film maintains excellent optical clarity, ensuring unobstructed views.
