Glare Reduction for Watsons Furniture Store, Dayton
Addressing Solar Glare
Watsons Furniture Store in Dayton, Ohio, recently partnered with TruView Films to address a persistent issue: intense solar glare affecting their help desk. The morning sun created a harsh environment, making it difficult for staff to work comfortably. In response, we installed Madico Duralite 10, a commercial window film specifically chosen for its ability to significantly reduce glare. This project involved applying the film to 12 windows, covering 618 square feet of commercial space.
How Madico Duralite 10 Works
Madico Duralite 10 is a darker-tinted window film designed to manage incoming light. It functions by absorbing and reflecting a portion of the light spectrum. This process lowers the Visible Light Transmission (VLT), which is the measurement of how much light passes through the film and glass. By reducing the VLT, the film effectively diminishes the intensity of sunlight entering the building, thereby reducing uncomfortable glare for occupants.
Benefits Beyond Glare Control
While glare reduction was the primary objective for Watsons Furniture Store, the installation of Madico Duralite 10 also provides other valuable benefits for commercial properties in the Dayton area.
Enhanced Comfort and Energy Efficiency
This film also helps reduce Total Solar Heat Gain (TSHG). By blocking a portion of the sun's heat energy, it can contribute to a more stable indoor temperature. This means less reliance on air conditioning during warmer months, potentially leading to energy savings. The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) quantifies this heat transfer; a lower SHGC indicates better heat rejection.
UV Protection
Madico Duralite 10 effectively blocks over 99% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV radiation is a primary cause of fading for interior furnishings, carpets, and merchandise. By filtering these rays, the film helps preserve the appearance and longevity of a business's assets, protecting them from sun damage.
Project Outcome
The installation at Watsons Furniture Store resulted in immediate and noticeable glare reduction. The client expressed satisfaction with both the improved visual comfort and the clean, professional appearance of the newly tinted windows. This project highlights how targeted window film solutions can solve specific operational challenges for businesses in Ohio.
