Glare Reduction for Restaurant Guests
This project at McDonald's in Trotwood, Ohio, focused on a common issue for restaurants: excessive sun glare impacting customer comfort. With 28 windows covering 568 sqft, the establishment sought a solution to mitigate the harsh sunlight that made dining areas uncomfortable.
Applying Solar Control Window Film
We utilized Avery Dennison OptiTune 15, a dual-reflective solar window film, to address the glare. This type of film is engineered to reflect a significant portion of solar energy away from the building while maintaining optical clarity from the interior.

Tune 15 Works
The OptiTune 15 film was specifically chosen for its ability to block 85% of the harsh visible light. This reduction in light intensity directly combats the blinding glare that was affecting patrons. The dual-reflective nature means the exterior surface reflects more light, while the interior surface offers a clear view, preventing the "mirror-like" effect inside.
Addressing Solar Heat Gain
Beyond glare, solar window film provides a crucial secondary benefit: heat reduction. The Avery Dennison OptiTune 15 film also rejects a substantial amount of solar heat. By reducing the amount of solar energy entering the building, the film helps keep the interior cooler, lessening the load on the HVAC system. This can contribute to energy efficiency for the business.
